Reading with a question

A few habits that make a useful idea easier to remember.

Start with something specific

Before opening a book, write down one question you hope it will help answer. A clear question gives your reading a direction without deciding the answer in advance.

Explain it in your own words

Close the page and describe the idea in a few sentences. If the explanation feels unclear, return to the passage and look for the missing step.

Connect the idea to an example

A concrete example is easier to revisit than a collection of quotations. Record where the idea might help and where it may not apply.
